Cleaning + Maintenance

For Natural Stone, Quartz, and Porcelain

Natural Stone (Marble, Granite, Quartzite, Onyx)

Maintenance & Cleaning

  • Mild dish soap + Water + Clean Cloth

  • Rinse + Dry

  • If the material has a finish other than polished, rather than simply wiping the counter down once a week to keep it clean, we recommend wiping it down once a day, as the textured surface has more surface area and is more exposed.

  • We do not recommend using products with lemon, ammonia, or any acid, as this will strip away the sealer and may etch the surface.

  • We recommend wiping any spills as soon as possible to keep the space stain-free.

Sealing

  • Romarts will have applied sealer by the time the project is completed and is expected to last about 1-3 years. However, applying more coats of sealer after the fact does not hurt the material.

  • Typically, the sealer is applied once a year (for Marble, we recommend twice a year), but your experience may vary; the best way to find out if you need to seal your countertops is by doing the water test.

  • You can purchase sealer at Home Depot and Lowes or online at Amazon.

Stains

Oil Based: Use a poultice with baking soda, water (or mineral spirit instead of water.)

Organic Stains: Use a poultice with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide (We do not recommend using acetone as if this is not used carefully, it may etch the stone)

Quartz + Porcelain

Maintenance & Cleaning

  • Mild dish soap + Water + Clean Cloth

  • Rinse + Dry

  • If the material has a finish other than polished, rather than simply wiping the counter down once a week to keep it clean, we recommend wiping it down once a day, as the textured surface has more surface area and is more exposed. (Exception applies to Viatera by LX Hausys Brushed finish or Silestone by Cosentino Suede Finish as they can be treated the same as their polished counterparts)

Sealing

Quartz and porcelain countertops do not require sealer; however, for quartz countertops with a non-polished finish, a sealer can be purchased online to provide more peace of mind.

Stains

You can use a gel-based soft scrub with a non-scratch scrubbing tool; please do not use comet or bleach, as these can damage the countertops.
